Immune Boosting Foods & Supplements
Fact: products that claim to "boost" your immune system are liars.
Your immune system can't be "boosted" with any particular supplement or nutrient. ❌ not vitamins ❌ not minerals ❌ not herbs ❌ not green juices ❌ not extracts You get the idea.
Your immune system is made of many parts: the lymphatic system, white blood cells, the thymus, bone marrow, spleen, and even skin. They all work together to prevent and rid the body of infection.
While the functions of all of these parts are dependent on a variety of nutrients, no single nutrient will "boost" the whole system.
In any case, an overactive immune system would be bad (this occurs with autoimmune disorders). The goal is to just have an optimally functioning immune system, which your body is pretty good at providing on its own if you take decent care of it.
To help your immune system function optimally:
Eat a balanced, varied diet (whole grains, legumes, nuts, proteins, fruit, veg, etc) Eat the rainbow- aka eat fruits and veggies of all different colors thought the week 😴 Get adequate sleep at night 🚶♀️ Be active each day, throughout the day 🚭 Quit smoking ☀️ Get sunshine 🛀 Manage stress 💉 Get vaccines when available
That's it. Sound simple? It really is- but perhaps harder to put into practice. During this time, try choosing at least one area to really focus on making a part of your lifestyle!
P.S. Just because "health products" may not offer any immune benefit does not mean they are harmless. Toxic levels of vitamins and minerals can be reached with improper supplementation. Other marketed products could interact with medications. Be wary and be smart.
